Hydrostatic Testing Services
Cylinders without structural integrity are risky for your employees and your property. It’s important to test your fire equipment and follow to DOT regulations by scheduling regular hydrostatic tests. Get your fire extinguishers and other pressurized cylinders tested with State Fire Idaho!
How Cylinder Recertification Works
With state-of-the-art testing equipment at our cylinder requalification facility, you can trust State Fire Idaho to get the job done right. Our knowledgeable inspectors understand DOT regulations and use them to check your cylinders for cracks, leaks, and more structural weaknesses.
Our hydrostatic pressure testing process will vary based on your cylinder’s age, contents, and material, but here’s generally what you can expect.
Step 1: Set a Time for Equipment Pickup
State Fire Idaho offers convenient cylinder pickup services. Every three to twelve years, when it’s time to recertify your tanks, our team will meet you at your home or business for the cylinder handoff. We then safely transport your equipment to our certified hydrostatic testing facility.
Step 2: Inspect the Tank’s Appearance
Our testing professionals will look for any exterior issues, including deep dents, corrosion, weld damages, and other structural faults. If we spot any of these weaknesses, we will permanently remove your tank from service.
Step 3: Carry Out an Internal Inspection
If our technicians clear the tank’s fittings and exterior, then we’ll move on to replacing its hoses and valve with hydro testing adapters. Our technicians completely discharge the tank and remove leftover agent with an air hose. After the tank is free of agent, we look for internal pitting and flaws.
Step 4: Complete the Hydrostatic Pressure Test
After the fire equipment has passed an interior and visual inspection, your cylinder is ready for hydro testing. Our testers make sure the tank does not drop in pressure as a the chamber is filled with water. If there is a pressure drop, your tank is leaking and needs to be decommissioned.
Step 5: Refill & Record Your Cylinder
Once your cylinder has proved it can withstand the hydrostatic test, we can return it to service. Our cylinder technicians drain and dry the tank, replace fittings, refill the agent, repressurize the cylinder, and install a tamper seal and hose.
Then, we attach a label to your low-pressure cylinder to prove your cylinder passed routine inspection. We include information like the date and pressure of the test, along with the person who oversaw it. High-pressure cylinders will not receive a label, just an ID number and date stamped onto the neck of the tank.
Step 6: Return Your Equipment
Gone are the days where you wait months to have your fire safety systems returned to you. We perform hydro tests quickly and get them back to you as soon as possible. And State Fire Idaho schedules a delivery time that’s most convenient for you.
Fire Equipment Eligible for Hydro Testing
Our advanced equipment can test both low and high-pressure cylinders. In addition to fire extinguishers, State Fire Idaho has the skills and tools to hydro test kitchen, vehicle, and clean agent cylinders.
